Jordan is a unique country. It offers a wide diversity of cultures, natural beauty and spectacular landscapes. From the spectacular landscapes of Petra to the wilderness of Wadi Rum, Jordan has it all. Being a non- oil producing country it heavily depends on tourism for its growth. Here is a exciting 5 day itinerary for Jordan :

Day 1:

Roman amphitheatre at Amman Jordan

Arrive at Amman and head to the hotel. Preferably select a hotel in downtown Amman. In the afternoon explore the Roman amphitheatre in the downtown Amman. Head to the Citadel thereafter. Total distance covered is around 2-3 km walking. You can directly walk from the downtown area to the Citadel and burn some calories for a sumptuous evening dinner with Shawarma.

Time and expenses- 3-4 hours, walking is free. Do not forget to try out the locals sweets made of cheese at the shop just opposite to the amphitheatre. Shawarma with salads for dinner is a must on the first day of the trip !!

Day 2:

Head on to Madaba, a touristy city known for its mosaic architectures in the ruins. From Madaba you can head on to Mount Nebo overlooking the Dead sea. From here you have a panoramic view Jerusalem. Memorial church of Moses is right on the top the hill. Next you can head to Dead sea, the lowest point on planet earth. Dip in the salty waters of the dead sea should be on the bucket list. Remember you only can float, donโ€™t try to swim. All the locations can be easily covered in a day provided you start early.

Time and Cost- 6-8 hours- 50-80 JD (private car)

Day 3:

Head on to the southern part of Jordan. Aqaba is on the southern tip of Jordan adjacent to Egypt on the Red sea. You can swim in Red sea, go for boating, snorkelling or scuba diving if you plan to stay in Aqaba. We headed to Wadi Rum. A stay at Wadi Rum is always inclusive of food, stay and game drive in the Wadi Rum Reserve. You can go for a short game drive (2 hours) or long drive (4 hours) before going to the camp for night stay.

Bus service-

We used Jett bus for long distance travel. Local mini buses are also available. Enquire about their timings locally.

Currency-

1 JD/Jordanian Dinar= 100 INR. I withdrew 150 JD from the ATM at Amman airport, Rs 15680 was deducted from my bank account (6.8 JD= Rs 680 was the transaction charge). At Delhi airport you cannot convert INR to JD. None of the currency exchanges have Jordanian Dinar at T3 IGI Airport, New Delhi. You can buy US Dollar and convert to Jordanian Dinar in Amman. You can also convert INR to JD directly in Amman downtown.

Approximate expenses for 2 persons- Rs 150000 (maximum) if you plan it early.

Visa:

Jordan is a tourist friendly country. Getting a Jordan Pass is the most convenient way to travel to Jordan. The pass starts from 70D. It includes Visa fees and entrance tickets to some of the tourist places like Wadi Rum, Petra etc. I will make a detailed blog on the Jordan pass soon.

Fare ranges from 25-40000 INR return from Delhi. There are no direct flights. There is usually a stopover at either Dubai/ Sharjah, Doha, Kuwait city.
